I got tired of the humming and buzzing noise (interference) showing up on the videos I was shooting with a $30 Azden clip on (lavalier) microphone. So I did some research into the problem and then called B&H Photo Video in New York. They suggested I buy a $200 Audio Technica Microphone (Model AT899), which has an XLR connection.

To connect it to the mini jack on my Canon ZR500 camcorder they suggested I buy the Pearstone LMT100 - Low to High Impedance Matching Transformer for $20. I followed their suggestions and am very pleased with what I bought. Hopefully I'll leave all the humming and buzzing noise problems behind.
