I got tired of the humming and buzzing noise (interference) showing up on the videos I was shooting with a $30 Azden clip on (lavalier) microphone. So I did some research into the problem and then called B&H Photo Video in New York. They suggested I buy a $200 Audio Technica Microphone (Model AT899), which has an XLR connection.

To connect it to the mini jack on my Canon ZR500 camcorder they suggested I buy the Hosa Line-Matching Transformer (MIT-156) for $20. I followed their suggestions and am very pleased with what I bought. Hopefully I'll leave all the humming and buzzing noise problems behind.

Here are scans of the packaging for these products. Click on any of the graphics to view a larger size version of it.

My only gripe is that the length of the cable on this microphone is only 10 feet long. 12 or 15 feet would have been more appropriate. B&H Photo Video tell me I can buy a longer cable if I'd like. I'll do that sometime.
