So I did some research into the problem and then called <a href="http://bhphotovideo.com">B&H Photo Video</a> in New York. They suggested I buy a $200 <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=266176&is=REG&addedTroughType=search">Audio Technica Microphone (Model AT899)</a>, which has an XLR connection.<br /><br />To connect it to the mini jack on my Canon ZR500 camcorder they suggested I buy the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=details_accessories&A=details&Q=&sku=423360&is=REG&addedTroughType=accessory_detail&addedTroughValue=266176_REG">Hosa Line-Matching Transformer (MIT-156)</a> for $20. I followed their suggestions and am very pleased with what I bought. Hopefully I'll leave all the humming and buzzing noise problems behind.<br /><br />Here are scans of the packaging for these products. Click on any of the graphics to view a larger size version of it.<br /><br />My only gripe is that the length of the cable on this microphone is only 10 feet long. 12 or 15 feet would have been more appropriate. B&H Photo Video tell me I can buy a longer cable if I'd like.
